Language development therapy addresses difficulties in understanding language (receptive) and using language (expressive). This includes challenges with vocabulary, sentence structure, following directions, storytelling, and social communication. Our licensed SLPs create individualized programs that build language skills systematically.
1Receptive vs. Expressive Language
Receptive language refers to the ability to understand words, sentences, and meaning. Expressive language is the ability to put words together, use appropriate grammar, and communicate thoughts effectively. Delays in either area can impact academic performance, social interactions, and daily functioning. Our therapists assess both areas to create a comprehensive treatment plan.
2Who Benefits from Language Therapy?
Language development therapy helps children who are late talkers, children with language-based learning disabilities, individuals with autism spectrum disorder, adults recovering from stroke or brain injury (aphasia), and anyone who struggles with reading comprehension or written expression. Our therapists tailor every session to the individual's age, needs, and goals.
3Our Therapy Methods
We use evidence-based approaches including narrative-based intervention, semantic mapping for vocabulary expansion, scaffolded language activities, and parent/caregiver coaching. For children, sessions are play-based and interactive. For adults, we focus on functional communication goals relevant to work, relationships, and daily life.
4What to Expect
After an initial assessment, your therapist will set specific language goals and create a therapy plan. Sessions are 30–45 minutes via secure video. Progress is tracked through standardized measures and detailed session notes shared after each appointment. Most clients see meaningful improvement within 10–16 sessions.
